23.06.18 Busknesfjord-Hamn i Senja

75 km, 4:17 cycling, average speed 17,6 km/h, total ascent 474 m, net ascent 0 m

Horrible weather! The day started slightly better than expected (which doesn't say much), with only a light rain and not so much wind. As this stretch to Andenes is particularly flat (exception: the bridge in Risøyhamn where the Hurtigrute passes, and a short area at 45 m before Andenes), I made good progress. Coffee and a sweet roll (Wienerbrød) in Coop shop in Dvergberg. From there both the wind and the intensity of the rain increased. The last part had a rather strong wind, lot's of rain and about 7 degrees. Summer? Waited for the ferry in the tourist office, and was offered a coffee! Waiting outside was not an attractive option.

Unfortunately the lounge in the 1,5 hour tour was not too warm, so I was halfway freezing even when I started cycling again, and now the weather was really bad. But as always, the slopes warm you up - this time I was looking forward to them. I had booked a room at Hamn, only 12 km from Gryllefjord, where the ferry comes. So the total ride was rather short, but enough in this weather. I would say I got paid for taking 40 km more yesterday!

Finally I left the province Nordland after 7 days and more than 700 km. That is the Netherlands from south to north and back again. Now I am in Troms.

As I arrived rather early, I washed some clothes, and now I am eating in the nice restaurant. Tomorrow they expect the same weather early in the morning, but then gradually improving.

Oy, yes, and I passed 1000 km today, and over 2000 from Lindesnes. A long-streched country.

The first 40 m spike is the bridge in Risøyhamn. The stretch between 70 and 100 km is the ferry. The funny "altitudes" must be changes in air pressure.

Flat!

This is very funny. Most places these sign have 0,5 km, 1 km, 1,5 km etc. But in the far south (see last year's blog) and here they use random distances around the whole and half km. Strange.

This is the first wind turbine I saw since I passed Vikna on day 2. Can't say there are too many along the cost of Nordland.

Another nice beach, give me beach weather!

Svein: Good work Gerard! I have now catch up on your blog from Calgary. I am still disappointed that you did not cycle through Harstad – that is why you get so bad weather. I hope you have enjoyed Senja even in bad weather. :-) Keep going!

    2. Det er vel du som må ta med meg, men været blir vel uforutsigbart. Hyggelig å høre fra deg forresten.
