116 km, 6 hours 31 min cycling, 17,7 km/h, 1008 m total ascent, 70 m net ascent
Awakening to a drizzle, not much, worst are the tiny gnats (knott) that love these conditions. And me. Need to hurry up just to pack up my luggage. Fortunately not tenting!
Tough ascent from Evje on road 42, from 180 to 400 m in a couple of km. The rest of the day is not bad though. Biking through endless forests and lakes, just a farm now and then. A small deer crossing in front of me. Lucky for him, I am not dangerous like a car. There are not many cars anyway, good for me too. Drizzle keeps on for a while, but do not really get wet much. No Americano and cakes for coffee today! Sandwich, apple and water. Taken walking because of the infamous gnats.
For 60 km there is not ad single shop, petrol station or anything! Finally arriving in Åmli, having a good lunch with view on Åmli hydro power station.
Out of Åmli the old road served as cycle track. No regular maintenance though.
From there following Nidelva (for my friends in Trondheim, yes!) up to lake Nisser and Treungen. And finally coffee and cake. Rather threatening weather, but no rain according to Yr, so decide to bike another 16 km to a nice camping on the west side of the lake. I was here with my parents 47 years ago! The ferry I will take tomorrow wax very special then, guess it has changed. Anyway, rain in one hour, so much for Yr. But a nice little hut at the side of the lake, and now the weather is nice too. But the gnat's are back also!
Two things I remember well from1970: the endless pine trees with dark trunks on the lower part and light further up, and the beaches of lake Nisser. Guess a 14-year old liked them. Better weather then 😎.
Tomorrow just a short ride to Vrådal to visit my friend Hans Wolstad. Back on Saturday.
