14.05.25 Day 8 - Rerik - Zingst. Tailwind, a DDR watch tower and a Spanish omelette

Starting first at 10:30 after a work meeting at the hotel. And, for the first time, tailwind. What a difference, or am I finally coming in shape? Passed a stoneage grave and a DDR watch tower in Kühlungsborn. Then just enjoying the easy ride with the tailwind. Staying at camping Seebrücke Zingst close to the Nationalpark Volpommersche Boddenlandskap.

"Hunnebed" in Dutch

This was probably the day with most variation so far. I had expected to mostly ride along the sea, but much of the way was through beech forests. Then changing with charming villages and the seashore.
The first kilometers were pretty hilly, with over 100m ascent the first half hour. This part was much like yesterday, with a lot of agriculture. After that it was mainly flat.

I had expected to see stoneage graves in the Dutch province of Drenthe, but somehow I missed them. But clearly they are here also.

In Kühlungen, a nice seashore resort, there was a reminder of the DDR time.

The sea also offered an escape route, and the state did what it could to make that impossible. A feq still succeeded, but many drowned or were taken and prisoned.

One of the small challenges when you travel like this is to find suitable food for a warm meal. Small quantities, easy to make etc. So here one of life's small pleasures: a supermarket where you can buy potatoes in any quantity (normally it it 2kg+)

Going berserk at the supermarket, cycling style

In Warnemünde, there was a new ferry passing. It is almost like my Nordkapp trip in 2018.

Ferry in Warnemünde. Cruise ships are here too

And another round with cobblestones, but a better solution here. In fact, there is a similar solution in Bakklandet in Trondheim

If you really want cobblestone, do it like this

Then finally arriving at the camping in Zingst. A bit late due to the late start, but today felt like an easy ride. Having a Spanish omelette for dinner. Not bad on a "storm kitchen". The Spanish may be offended, but I was pretty satisfied.

105km in 7:50 hours, active time 6:05 hours.
Total 789km
